What is The Leadership Catalyst?
“Communication is King, understanding is everything”
I am in danger of sounding like a cliché when I say “leadership is more than a skill, it is a way of life” but, this is truly what I believe. We can all lead more successful, positive lives if we take on board certain thought processes, not just in work, but in our personal lives too helping us build quality relationships in all aspects of life.
The Leadership Catalyst (tLC) is supposed to be just that; a catalyst. It is whatever you need it to be to help you take that next step. Positive reassurance? An eye opening experience? Encouragement to carry out further research? Whatever you need to finish today stronger than you started.
The Leadership Catalyst is a labour of love and an evolution of need. A lot of people believe that a strong mentor is one of the best ways to grow, create goals and ultimately achieve them. The Leadership Catalyst started as a project for those people who don’t have such a mentor but who aspire to be one.
Originally a way to share my experiences in the hope that some people could avoid the pitfalls and wrong turns I took, it rapidly became clear that communication, understanding and leadership were the key areas people felt least supported. My book – 10 Steps to Becoming a Great Leader – grew from there as a tool to break down and teach what it means to be a great leader, even if you have never had the benefit of having one yourself.
I consider myself lucky to have worked with some wonderful people which has allowed us to build great teams, achieve fantastic results and develop and sustain, quality, meaningful relationships. It was through these developments that it became clear how little exposure to leadership training and education people get on average.
An industry in its own right, good leadership and communication skills are not simply ‘part’ of a job. The skills we are looking to develop here are arguably the most transferable around. What I want to teach you will benefit you in your personal life just as much a it will in your work life and, in this job, just as much as in your next.
Luck is most definitely a part of the journey but what you do with the luck is way more important. You would be amazed just how hard the ‘luckiest’ people work ;o)
